Senior Android Developer

Overview

Our client, a global leader in financial technology, is seeking a Senior Android Developer to join their Dublin-based team as part of a key modernisation programme.

You will play a lead role in designing and developing secure, high-performance Android applications within a highly regulated environment.

Working closely with QA, Product, and Programme teams, you will help deliver scalable, maintainable solutions while contributing to overall technical direction and best practices.

This position is ideal for an experienced Android engineer who thrives on building complex, business-critical applications and working across the full software development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Android Development Design, develop, and maintain high-quality Android applications using Java and Kotlin Apply modern development practices including clean architecture and modularisation Contribute to technical design decisions with a focus on scalability, maintainability, and security Integrate applications with external services, SDKs, and Android platform capabilities (e.g., secure storage, networking, hardware features) Security, Quality & Compliance Apply secure coding practices aligned with industry standards Support QA processes including unit and integration testing, as well as defect resolution Participate in audit remediation and compliance-related activities where required Legacy Modernisation Support migration and refactoring of legacy Android codebases Implement modern architectures with improved separation of concerns and reusability Contribute to incremental modernisation while maintaining system stability Performance & Observability Monitor and optimise application performance (e.g., startup time, memory usage, responsiveness) Implement logging, monitoring, and diagnostic capabilities to support production environments Automation & CI/CD Contribute to build, test, and deployment pipelines Support CI/CD initiatives and automated testing to improve release quality and efficiency Collaboration & Mentorship Collaborate with cross-functional teams including developers, QA, product owners, and delivery leads Participate in code reviews and promote development best practices Mentor junior developers and support team knowledge sharing Assist in post-release reviews and root cause analysis Required Experience & Skills Strong experience in Android development (Java & Kotlin) Proven experience delivering enterprise-scale or business-critical mobile applications Solid understanding of modern Android architecture patterns (e.g., MVVM, Clean Architecture) Experience with secure development practices in regulated environments is advantageous Strong experience integrating APIs, SDKs, and mobile platform features Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing Ability to work effectively across the full SDLC Strong problem-solving and communication skills Education Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline Additional Information Hybrid role with 4 days in office per week in Dublin or Nenagh Opportunity to join a leading global fintech organisation Work on large-scale, high-impact digital transformation initiatives Strong team collaboration with opportunities for technical leadership
