L3 Infrastructure Engineer | Enterprise Platforms & Projects

Infrastructure environments do not become complex because engineers are careless. They become complex because scale, regulation, uptime expectations, and legacy all collide.

This role exists to bring clarity, ownership, and senior technical leadership into that reality.

The organisation operates at scale, across multiple sites, within a highly regulated environment, which means platforms must be resilient, auditable, secure, and well run. This is not a “keep the lights on” role. It is a senior engineering position where you are trusted to own problems end-to-end and leave the environment better than you found it.

You will sit at Level 3, the escalation point for complex server, virtualisation, and infrastructure issues, but just as importantly, you will lead infrastructure projects, drive improvements, and help shape standards across the wider technology estate.

You are not stepping into a rigid or over-engineered IT function. This is a busy, hands-on environment where ITIL, change control, and audit requirements exist for good reason, but where senior engineers are given autonomy, trust, and visibility.

What you will be responsible for

  • Acting as the Level 3 escalation point for server and infrastructure issues across multiple sites

  • Owning complex incidents through root cause, resolution, and prevention

  • Leading infrastructure projects from design through to delivery

  • Administering and optimising: Windows Server 2016 / 2019 / 2022

  • Active Directory (DNS, DHCP, GPO, patching)

  • VMware (v8.x)

  • Enterprise server and storage platforms

  • O365, Azure AD, Exchange (including ActiveSync)

  • Backup and recovery platforms

  • Networking (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, NAT, VPNs, LAN/WAN)

Supporting cloud usage for off-site backup and disaster recovery

Ensuring strong documentation, configuration management, and change control

Supporting internal and external audits (ISO27001, SOX, NIST, finance and client audits)

Mentoring and supporting junior engineers, raising overall team capability

Working closely with IT operations leadership and wider business stakeholders

What you will bring

  • Strong hands-on experience in an L3 infrastructure or senior support role

  • Deep troubleshooting capability across Windows, virtualisation, and networking

  • Experience operating in regulated, enterprise environments

  • A proactive mindset — you look for improvements, not just fixes

  • The ability to work independently while contributing strongly to a team

  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Relevant industry certifications (Microsoft, VMware) are beneficial
